About the Food Safety and Standards Digest

The Food Safety and Standards Digest (FSSD) is a bi-annual magazine published by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The magazine aims tocommunicate science-based informationand promote awareness of food standards and various matters of food safety among all stakeholders, including scientific community and general public.

To date, FSSAI has advanced its mandate through regulations, advisories, and compendiums.The FSSDbuilds upon these foundations, providing adedicated platform for the scientific dialogue. It connects stakeholderswith technical discussion papers, expert insightsand peer-reviewed research from the broader food safety community.

Scope of the Magazine

The content encompasses food-related news and developments not only limited to FSSAI, but also from other national and international organizations working in the area of food safety and standards and allied sectors.

The Digest comprehensively addresses various dimensions of food safety, standards, policy, and innovation.

The Digest comprises of six main thematic sections:

  • Research & Innovation: This section includes reviews, technical notes, short communications, case studies, peer-reviewed articles and research papers on new processes and technological advancements in the field of food safety.
  • Regulatory and Policy Forum: This section features notification briefs, expert commentaries, advisory notes, and global regulatory updates. It may also include information articles on surveillance, trade-related matters, and other policy developments, particularly the standards/specifications.
  • Perspectives & Dialogue: This section serves as a platform for interviews, letters, stakeholder opinions, and discussions on public health and safety concerns, food quality (adulteration) and food import/export concerns
  • Technical Practices: This section focuses on guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) such as GMP and GHP, accreditation, conformity assessment, hygiene ratings, quality management systems, and related industry best practices.
  • News & Events: This section covers stakeholder consultations, national and international events, training programmes, workshops, symposiums, and conferences related to food safety, nutrition, standards, regulations and, along with updates on vacancies and opportunities in the field of food science and technology.
  • Creatives: This section showcases engaging and visual content including comics, IEC materials, alerts, and highlights from campaigns such as the Eat Right Campaign, as well as social media features aimed at promoting awareness and public engagement.

Purpose

The magazineis a high-quality, transparentinstrument for building public trust and an instrument for ecosystem improvement by creating a prestigious platform to showcase best practices in the area of food science and technology, to drive nationwide improvements in food safety standards.
